Qld: Crowe wins best actor award for Gladiator

RUSSELL CROWE has been named best actor by the Broadcast Film Critics Association for
the second year in a row.

CROWE has earned the award from the largest US film critics group for his role as the
general-turned-slave Maximus, in the RIDLEY SCOTT film Gladiator.

It's CROWE'S first acting prize since the 2000 movie industry award season began earlier
this month.

Gladiator also picked up critics choice awards for best supporting actor for JOAQUIN
PHOENIX, best screen play, best cinematography, best production design and best music.

Last year CROWE won the critic's choice best actor award for The Insider.

The broadcast critics named JULIA ROBERTS best actress for her role as a legal crusader
in ERIN BROCKOVICH.

The award season continues later this week with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association
announcing it's Golden Globe nominees on Friday (AEST).
