Fed: Taller, fatter, bustier - how have Aussie women changed?

A national survey to discover the true shape of the modern Australian woman will belaunched this weekend on the Gold Coast.

Waists, busts, hips, height, weight and 40 other detailed measurements of 2,000 womenand girls aged 12 to 24 will be gathered in Surfers Paradise, Sydney, Melbourne and Torquayover the next two months.

Surf-wear manufacturer Rip Curl has commissioned the University of Adelaide's Departmentof Anatomical Sciences to conduct the survey.

The last major scientific study of Australian women was undertaken by the Berlei BraCompany in 1926.

Lead researcher KATH BERRY conducted a survey of 170 women two years ago and foundon average, they were two centimetres taller and six kilograms heavier than the 1926 Australianwoman.

The modern woman also has a wider back, larger waist and a bigger bust.
